Unofficial Jackson Hole

Dec TwentyOne till present.

December 23, 2007 · No Comments

hello kids, been a bit slack, been riding all this pow. here’s a little bit of footy from the 21st. nothing special, just a teaser.  Thurs 20th was really the day to be on the hill, with an epic 8-10. Friday was still pretty good, and a late opening of the Hobacks on Friday afternoon was a nice surprise.  The lower mountain has filled in ok, still a bit boney last 100m onto the cat and there are rocks around but is still definately worth a hit.  with another 4 inches falling last night.   Today (Sunday) was pretty damn good.  Lapped North and South Hoback and was hitting my own line all the way.  Also started finding our way around a bit better, some good stashes between the gondy and thunder off the closed face, and poaching little fun chutes between top of thunder and sublette too.  More snow on the way.  Merryfuckingcrimbo. Footy coming soon, having some trouble exporting..

‘New snow with Fog / flat light in places’

‘Clear in others…. Russ making the most of the clearing skies… Getting some fresh on the lower part of the mountain off Apres Vous, “Secret Slope”. As you can see more snow is needed in the lower areas’

About 6-7 inches fell over the last 24hrs most of which coming late yesterday afternoon. The accumulation of snow over the last few days has meant there are plenty of pockets of deep stuff. With the fog up high the trees were the place to be, tuns of fresh lines are to be had in the trees off the gondie and casper chair, with minimal crowds.

The forecast is looking good over the next few days, 8-10″ is predicted over the next 24hrs and more throughout the week. Higher winds are forecast for tomorrow, so once again look for protection in the trees. Avi danger has increased to considerable at mid to high altitudes. This is due to the high winds during the past snow storm, accompanied by the weak low density snow beneath. Caution on the wind loaded steeps pitches.

Bring on this storm, the lower mountain definitely needs it. -E

December sicksteenth

8 inches of fresh, tree fell on the gondy. Everyone went round the long way and got some sick riding off the East Ridge, Sublette, Thunder, Ten Sleeps and all over.  Mountain was quiet so we were poaching full fresh all morning and into the afternoon off Casper traverse and into the trees.  It’s still snowing, a little and they are talking about 8-10 more tonight.  Good times.  Ev lost a glove but found it again.  We took the camera hoping to film some shit but all we got is this.  WE were too busy getting amongst it and too stoked to stop and film.  Next time, i promise. well, maybe tomorrow. maybe. Saturday 15th Dec….

December 15, 2007 · No Comments

Its dumping, probably seen a couple of inches this morning up high, fresh sitting on the crust but the trees are fun, Vis is pretty shitty so get amongst the greens.  Fairly cold at upper elevations.  Its snowing right the way down to town so hopefully start to cover the lower mountain’s rock and bush fest.  Expect to see 4 / 5 inches or more over the next 24. and more snow through monday at least.  Mountain is still pretty empty despite the warriors.  Good times. Rode this morning, surprised to still be finding plenty of fresh pockets in bounds, little crusty underneath but fun all the same, the trees under the gondy, and pretty much everywhere are still hiding some soft snow.  Casper ran today and there were lines to be had in there.  The bigger lines are all pretty thrashed and we are now gonna just be waiting on the next snowfall.  Backcountry is on.  The corduroy is sweet too.  Parks are under construction and they are blowing snow in the pipe 24/7, there are light snow showers forecast, check out www.mountainweather.com

There is a free tune available at the Bridger Center, if you mention the add from the back of Jackson snowboard Mag.  Go find Derek.

More Terrain Open

December 10, 2007 · No Comments

‘Looking across Cheyenne Bowl’

‘Four Shadows’

(all taken from the top of Sublet on 12/9/07)

Over the last week we’ve seen almost 20″ of new snow above mid mountain, and about 6″ at the base. This has allowed more terrain to open with the gondie and thunder opening on Saturday and sublet on Sunday. The lower half of the mountain still needs alot of snow before any of that terrain will open. Until then a long traverse along South Pass is needed to get you back to the man made stuff and access to the base. -E

Thanksgiving turns - Teton Pass

November 24, 2007 · 1 Comment

‘A few girls on the way down’

‘Blue bird powder turns for Ben’

Arriving at the pass we weren’t the only ones taking advantage of the clear skies and the day off. After about an hours hike up a solid boot pack we were at the top of Glory Bowl. After dropping in we were surprised how much fresh snow had fallen up there during the week. With rain down in town during the week we all had hoped that it had been dumping up high.

The first half of the bowl was dry pow to our amazement, a few rocks were hit. More snow is definitely needed. The last half was rain effected, and icy in places, where recent cold temps has frozen the wet stuff.

But all in all it was definitely worth it, and with snow forecast for early next week we are hoping that some of the lower aspects get some more cover. -E
